  Why hire a professional interior designer?  You watch TV, can do some DIY, have fabulous taste and are on top of the latest trends, right?  You’re hiring a contractor/handyman, painter, flooring installer, plumber, electrician and maybe an architect.  You’re excitedly shopping for furnishings, fixtures, finishes and accessories, not to mention fabrics, textiles, lighting etc.   So why would you spend extra money on a professional designer?  You got this.

  There are a lot of components that go into a cohesive design as mentioned above.  Do you have time to stay on top of it all?  Consider things are happening simultaneously too.  Can you juggle the mechanics of a full time design or remodel?  What if something goes wrong?  And rest assured it always does.  Whether it’s a supply chain delay, a worker accidentally breaking something, or an incorrect order etc. it usually has to be handled asap!

  And that’s just logistics and implementation.  What about décor?  Do you know about rhythm, harmony, balance, scale and proportion when relating design elements?  How good are you at color coordinating?  The biggest clue of an amateur designer is everything is matchy, matchy.  Grey on grey on grey is not a good look. Neither is beige on beige on beige, or black on black etc.

  Oh boy, this cannot be overstated.  We know you’re excited to implement all the cool things you’ve seen on TV and really make your house a reflection of your ‘uniqueness’.  Consider first if this is your forever home?  Even if you think it is, sometimes life happens and throws us a curve ball.  And good luck trying to sell your home if it’s painted every color of the rainbow, or you have 5 different types of flooring.  Not everyone shares your taste and that’s ok…until it’s time to put your house on the market.

  Staging has brought me to some really crazy places.  I also visit a lot of open houses and just go “What were they thinking”???  I’ve seen tile that doesn’t run parallel to the wall and wall paper that doesn’t match up!  Of course it’s the Realtors fault when the house doesn’t sell.  And by that time, the home owner is tapped out physically, mentally and financially.
