3 Key Reasons to Hire a Professional Designer
Oct 7, 2022
Why hire a professional interior designer? You watch TV, can do some DIY, have fabulous taste and are on top of the latest trends, right? You’re hiring a contractor/handyman, painter, flooring installer, plumber, electrician and maybe an architect. You’re excitedly shopping for furnishings, fixtures, finishes and accessories, not to mention fabrics, textiles, lighting etc. So why would you spend extra money on a professional designer? You got this.
Or do you?
There are a lot of components that go into a cohesive design as mentioned above. Do you have time to stay on top of it all? Consider things are happening simultaneously too. Can you juggle the mechanics of a full time design or remodel? What if something goes wrong? And rest assured it always does. Whether it’s a supply chain delay, a worker accidentally breaking something, or an incorrect order etc. it usually has to be handled asap!
And that’s just logistics and implementation. What about décor? Do you know about rhythm, harmony, balance, scale and proportion when relating design elements? How good are you at color coordinating? The biggest clue of an amateur designer is everything is matchy, matchy. Grey on grey on grey is not a good look. Neither is beige on beige on beige, or black on black etc.
Fabulous interior design is about mixing, matching and contrasting, everything from colors to materials. It really is an art. There’s a reason people go to school for this. While some have a natural ‘eye’ for interior décor, there are a lot of technical details that count too. It’s not just one thing but a sum total of moving parts that blend together the past, present and future of your home.
Here are 3 key reasons to hire a professional designer like myself!
- We Handle Everything! The good, the bad and the ugly.
As mentioned above there are a lot of things to factor in when completing a home make-over. Whether it’s a single space or a whole house remodel, we can handle it all - from getting bids for contractors and subcontractors to coordinating the complete design. We take care of all the little disasters that arise while at the same time currating a specific look that speaks to you. And we are dialing it in to go with the rest of your home.
Wanna test your skills as a project manager? We can hold your hand through the process or draw you a map and let you steer the ship? Whatever works for you, works for us as long as you bring us in at the beginning. It’s hard to piggy back off someone else’s design or clean up their mess if doesn’t work out.
Whether we’re by your side, off to the side, or front and center coming to you for approvals, you’ll be glad you sought professional advice.
- D.I.Y. Gone Awry Can Kill Your Resale Value.
Oh boy, this cannot be overstated. We know you’re excited to implement all the cool things you’ve seen on TV and really make your house a reflection of your ‘uniqueness’. Consider first if this is your forever home? Even if you think it is, sometimes life happens and throws us a curve ball. And good luck trying to sell your home if it’s painted every color of the rainbow, or you have 5 different types of flooring. Not everyone shares your taste and that’s ok…until it’s time to put your house on the market.
Staging has brought me to some really crazy places. I also visit a lot of open houses and just go “What were they thinking”??? I’ve seen tile that doesn’t run parallel to the wall and wall paper that doesn’t match up! Of course it’s the Realtors fault when the house doesn’t sell. And by that time, the home owner is tapped out physically, mentally and financially.
3. We Can Probably Save You Money (And your marriage).
When we find out what people paid to remodel/redesign/decorate their most valuable asset, we’re like “You spent what???” It’s especially heart breaking if it is DIY Gone Awry. Hiring a professional designer can probably save you money in the long run, and a lot of regret. After all we know where the bargains are and a have access to designer discounts. Not to mention we have a pretty good arsenal of professionals we like to work with.
The best place to start is with a Consultation where we walk and talk your home, discussing its pros & cons, along with your ideas and personal style. We make suggestions based on our extensive experience, and using our eye for design. We listen to what you have to say about your lifestyle needs and the comfort zone of your budget.
Don’t have a budget? You will need one! We can help you figure that out and make a list of priorities that fit it.Bottom line, we are here for you. My specialty as a professional designer is in remodeling 30 yearish old homes. Been there, done that. I was a DIY gal and still like to tackle some projects myself. However, once I started studying with the NY Institute of Art and Design, I realized you don’t know what you don’t know until you know it! I’ve learned a lot through trial and error too. I like to share with my clients what doesn’t work and what does, passing along my knowledge, creativity and most of all my experience!
